Prairie Trust Resources

Working in the three prairie provinces of Canada, Prairie Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a sustainable community through the conservation and enhancement of environmental health on the prairie landscape. Prairie Trust offers long-term viability to the rural community and the landscapes that it depends upon. Prairie Trust is taking a unique approach to land and nature conservation by incorporating the rural community as an integral component in the ecosystem.

The conservation of natural landscapes has a value that extends beyond biodiversity. Conserved areas provide economic benefits; essential environmental services; maintain natural resources; and sustain communities dependant upon the land’s resources.

Canada’s rich cultural and natural heritage is at risk. Prairie Trust aims to reduce the continuing fragmentation of the rural community, family farm and significant natural landscapes. With the loss of these vital Canadian resources the quality and safety of our domestic food supply is threatened, the degradation of the environment compromises its ability to supply us with a free supply of clean air and clean water, rural areas will become even more depopulated due to loss of jobs or future enterprise.

With partnerships a priority, Prairie Trust employs a variety of strategies including education, conservation agreements, economic incentive programs and other support initiatives for agricultural communities.
